MapExplorer — Privacy Policy

MapExplorer is an Android app that records the path you travel so you can see which parts of your city you have explored. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The short version: your data stays on your device. We run no servers and receive nothing.

Data the app collects

Location. With your permission, the app reads your device’s location to draw your position on the map and, while tracking is on, to record your travelled path. Location is used in the foreground and — only while you have tracking turned on — in the background through an Android foreground service.
Points of interest (“legends”). Markers you place, with the names you give them.

Where the data is stored

All recorded paths and legends are stored only on your device, in the app’s private storage. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no servers of its own. We (the developer) never receive, see, or process your location data.

If you use the Export or Auto-export features, the app writes copies of your data to your device’s Downloads folder. Those files are under your control; sharing them (or not) is up to you.

Third-party services

The map is displayed using the Google Maps SDK for Android, provided by Google. When the map loads, Google receives the network requests needed to serve map imagery and may collect data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. MapExplorer does not send your recorded paths or legends to Google or to anyone else.

Data deletion

In the app: the side panel’s “Delete all travelled information” removes all saved paths and legends from the device.
Uninstalling the app deletes its private storage.
Exported files in Downloads can be deleted with any file manager.

Children

MapExplorer is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new “last updated” date.
